June 12th - Attack of the ants... in Fiona's world

Day 2 of our vacation. Actually, this is our first full day in Vail. We all woke up around 7:30 a.m., and for those of you who know us, this is early for us. Colin made a wonderful pancake breakfast, and then we decided to take a hike.

The trailhead was about 3 miles from our villa, and we actually went to the wrong trailhead first, because our concierge gave us incorrect directions. Nevertheless, we finally found the correct spot to start the Meadow Mountain trail. Again, the concierge was not entirely correct. She said that up and back was 3-3.5 miles. I need to inform her that 2/3 up, which is where we stopped and ate lunch, was 2.4 miles. By the time we returned to the car, we had hiked 4.8 miles. Fiona kept seeing ants, and so she wanted to be carried most of the way. We kept saying how we wished she wasn't too big for the Kelty pack, but instead I get super mommy arms. The view was amazing, and where we stopped we some some beautiful wildflowers. Fiona insisted that I take a lot of pictures of her holding rocks (one of her favorite things to collect). The "pose" chosen was all her idea.

When we arrived back at the villa, Colin took Fi to the playground, and I went out for my last run of my 90 day program! 40 minutes today. I have to say that running at 8,000 feet is a little more difficult. I ran all but about 5-7 minutes. There were a couple of hills I just couldn't do.

Once again, an early bed! More adventures tomorrow.
